It's July, and I can't even consider a time where film goers were separated into two worlds for such a good reason.
According to Wikipedia, "Barbenheimer is an Internet phenomenon that began circulating ahead of the theatrical release of two films diametrically opposed in genre, Barbie and Oppenheimer, on July 21, 2023.The word is a portmanteau of the films' titles.
The contrast between Barbie, a fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig about the fashion doll Barbie, and Oppenheimer, a biographical thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan about theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, provoked a comedic response from Internet users; Polygon described the two films as "extreme opposites"."
This phenomenon apparently works perfect for movie theaters around the world, despite the fact that in many countries, Barbie will be released earlier than Oppenheimer. This is an absolute perfect marketing strategy for and from both films, despite their own unique approach to cinema lovers.
With all this fuzz around the most inticipated movies of 2023, one thing is for sure: Faith in cinema restored!
I guess I'll see you in the movies!
