Cinebur: A Global Go-To App for Every Moviegoer

Cinebur: A Global Go-To App for Every Moviegoer

Watching movies is my all-time favorite activity, regardless of the place or time. When I discovered Cinebur app, I couldn't resist sharing it with you, knowing it will quickly become your favorite, no matter where you are.

I first encountered Cinebur when I stumbled upon photos of screenings in outdoor locations and bars on its Instagram page. I remember thinking, "How cool is this?" and wondering, who's behing this wonderful idea and if these events happen in Greece as well, and thankfully I was right.

Cinebur is - as said by Doddi El-Gabry and Thomas Desombre, Cinebur co-founders - a combination of the words cinema and neighbour. Their idea of community is very important to their vision of Cinebur, as they don't watch movies, they go there.

What is Cinebur?

Cinebur is an international platform that links audiences to live film screenings held in distinctive social venues, across the globe. It combines hospitality with culture, art, and film to craft unforgettable cinema experiences. It’s about finding outstanding films in remarkable venues that give you a local vibe, while fostering positive interactions and unique moments in spots that reveal a new side of each city.

This experience is meant to be shared with friends - both those you bring along and those you meet there. Their running joke is asking, "If Cinebur were a person, what would its character be?". They all agree it would be someone who knows all the city's coolest hidden spots and is always discussing the most unique and rare films. If you ask me, I couldn't agree more.

Cinebur collaborates directly with independent filmmakers and distributors to curate a seasonal selection of award-winning films, which are then showcased by Hosts. Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders, Hiroshima Mon Amour by Alain Resnais, Holy Motors by Leos Carax are just a few of the great movies you can find at a Cinebur venue. The only thing you have to do is download the Cinebur App for free.

Meanwhile, Cinebur offers a curated collection of films to a network of hosts who then screen them at their venues. From wineries, museums, and boutique hotels to art galleries, rooftop bars, cafés, and various other creative brands that align with their mission of fostering community through cinema.

Moviegoers can exclusively book tickets through their app, where they can explore new venues, discover films, and connect with each other. Each screening on Cinebur offers a distinctive social cinema experience. They are dedicated to uniting people through live film screenings that engage audiences and inspire conversation.

A New Cinebur Experience

To enrich the cinema-going experience and connect cineburs through the films they watch, Cinebur app has introduced some exciting and noteworthy updates.

Moviegoers can now create their profiles, add friends, and share reviews, favorite films, events, and venues directly through the app. The app’s thoughtful features underscore Cinebur’s commitment to fostering real-world connections in a secure environment. For instance, you can only become friends by scanning each other’s unique QR codes found in Cinebur profiles, ensuring genuine in-person interactions before connecting online.

Meanwhile, Hosts forge stronger connections with their audiences, allowing hospitality partners to cultivate a more engaged community around their Cinebur screenings. This creates an environment where people feel at ease and enthusiastic about returning to their favorite Hosts when new events arise.

Cinebur app has already been the digital bridge between Hosts and audiences with physical screenings in various cities across the UK, Greece, Cyprus, and the USA. Through Cinebur people can travel through cinema, while also exploring not only their own city, but also discovering new places globally. This way, everyone can enjoy authentic local experiences through the enchanting world of movies that knows no borders.

An experience worth-sharing

Being in Athens is a privilege for me, as Cinebur, through its hosts, has been available on numerous occasions. The Cinebur launch in Athens with their very first Host partner, the B&E Goulandris Foundation.

The one where I first found myself was To Bar Athens, in Exarcheia. This hidden local gem in Athens has hosted its sold-out “Cinema Hideaway Under The Stars” events in Cinebur at their secret garden. Unique cocktails, special wines, and fresh popcorn add up to the exceptional atmosphere that To Bar, in collaboration with Cinebur, provides through their special events.

What I recall from my first Cinebur night is that we discovered the movie we would be watching just one day before the screening, receiving various hints about it through the Cinebur App. The film was Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, which I had wanted to see for a long time but hadn't had the chance until then. This screening will surely stay in my memory, not only for the beautiful courtyard of To Bar and its warm hospitality but also for the entire experience provided by the Cinebur team.

Cinema has a remarkable ability to unite people and cultures in surprising ways. What I appreciate most about this initiative is precisely that. I’m sure that Cinebur will become your go-to cine-app too.
